Our Stories… WIP Excerpt from A Vampire’s Sin (Feb 10, 2021)

Teasers for Vamp's Sin (5)

Here’s a little unpublished unedited excerpt from my work in progress A VAMPIRE’S SIN.

Nyssa straightened her spine despite the dingy surroundings.

“It doesn’t matter where I come from,” she told Mag with a firm tone, “I can easily just walk in this diner and retrieve my sister. You didn’t need to come.”

“I’m the one Vince called.” Mag gently took hold of her elbow, his rich and spicy scent folding over her. “Senora Moreno seems to like you, but Vince and I go a long way.”

“Mob.” Nyssa shook her head. “It was written all over him.”

“And you disapprove?”

She shrugged and looked up at him. “If you don’t follow the law, how do you know what to do? What’s left to believe in?”

“Oh I don’t know. Ourselves. A moral code.”

“You have a moral code?” As she said the words and took in the strong jaw and sculpted cheekbones, she knew deep inside that whatever rules Mag followed, they were guided by a steady ethical compass, starting by his presence here helping her. He had already paid his part of the bargain and introduced her to the Moreno family. But he was still with her now. “That bodyguard of Senora Moreno, Vince, he’s just like you, isn’t he?”

He shot her a wicked grin. “Oh and how is that?”

“Contained, confident.” She paused for a moment to survey his features further, noting the strong-minded brow.

She had never expressed to herself exactly how she viewed Mag beyond the enticing but stubborn club owner. She’d always been annoyed at his casual attitude around legalities, where he’d laugh at her for inquiring about things such as noise bylaws and urban planning regulations for his neighborhood.  But things were different since she’d asked for his help. He’d turned to be a surprising ally.

She searched for the right word to describe him and added, “Loyal?”
